6. Anger Management

Duration: 15 to 45 minutes
This coaching impulse is a classic one in the “Solution Oriented Fast Tip Coaching”, SOFTCo, approach. It helps to quickly resolve resentments when someone has been hurt or feels offended about something. A clever saying goes, “For the first 15 seconds, anger is a reflex … after that you decide whether you want to remain angry.” This is not always helpful. Sometimes people are not able to get over their anger on their own. That’s when they need someone to help them out of their disgruntlement. And all too often, there’s something else behind the anger. The way to do this is active listening, that means listening very carefully to what the other person said and then to ask further questions. In this way, the coachee finds his own solutions and the coach can help with the concrete formulation thereof and in generating ideas for the implementation.
